Abstract

The article explores the sex-specific effects of MTSS1 downregulation on dilated cardiomyopathy. Through population genomics and in vivo models, researchers found that MTSS1-lowering alleles were associated with smaller left ventricular volumes and higher ejection fraction, particularly in women. In murine models, reducing Mtss1 levels partially rescued dilated cardiomyopathy in female mice but not in males. The study suggests a biologic basis for sex dimorphism in cardiac remodeling and highlights the importance of probing genetic variants for sex differences in assessing cardiac disease risk accurately.
