Abstract

Key digested message The role of UK adult social workers involves supporting individuals in various settings to enhance their independence. Negative stereotypes and lack of understanding of the social worker's role may impact their effectiveness. Aggression from clients is prevalent, with verbal abuse and physical violence being common. Factors such as clients' mental health and past trauma contribute to aggression. Coping mechanisms include organisational strategies and personal self-care. Building trust is crucial but can be undermined by stereotypes and media portrayal. A case study exemplifies the challenges faced, highlighting the need for proactive intervention and support.
