Mechanical properties of sandwich nano composite of epoxy/ chopped S-glass fiber reinforced by SiO2, ZrO2 nano particles for core and skin Al 6061-T6.

Abstract
- Sandwich panels have uses in the transportation industry, civil engineering, ships, and aircraft. The characteristics of the sandwich components directly affect the mechanical characteristics of these composites. The paper presents Nano composites and its impact on the mechanical characteristics of polymer composites with sandwich structures. The sandwiches include core and two thin sheets of AL6061-T6 lightweight shell, nSiO2, nZrO2 with grain size has been measured by a laser light diffraction instrument, it is found 35nm were added at the equal amount (1%wt.) for separated condition and 0.5%wt for hybrid sandwich composite using a mixture of epoxy resin and chopped S-glass fibre at a weight of 10% to construct the sandwich's backbone. To make reinforcement mixes manually, use mechanical mixing and ultrasonic stirring. Mechanical testing is done on produced sandwich composites to determine their qualities, such as their tensile strength and ductility, impact strength, and hardness. The result demonstrates that composites with filler material exhibit greater strength in comparison to composites without filler material, the percentage of improvements for tensile strength are 71% for nSiO2, 65% for nZrO2, and 64.8% for hybrid, while for impact strength and hardness they are 75% for SiO2, 74% for ZrO2, and 61% for hybrid. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results reveal that the ZrO2 and SiO2 nanoparticles in the chopped S-glass fibre composite are uniformly dispersed and do not mix. Science involving water absorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). A complete oxidation of the composite was shown by the FTIR data, which showed the existence of several functional oxygen groups in the sample. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
