Fasciculations detected by muscle ultrasonography in the early stage of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: An autopsy case.

We describe an autopsied case of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, wherein fasciculations were detected by muscle ultrasonography in the early stage. The myotome areas with fasciculations corresponded to areas of severe pathological lesions. Our results demonstrated that these fasciculations indicate excitability and severity of affected lower motor neurons and significantly contribute to diagnosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
