Abstract

Objective: present design, construction and validation of an instrument to measure knowledge and application of surgical site infection prevention measures. Method: study with descriptive, process and validation design and longitudinal section. The research was non-probabilistic for convenience in the surgical units of four second-level hospitals, public and private, in the interior of the Mexican Republic. Statistical analysis consisted of the Kairser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) sampling adequacy test; Bartlett's sphericity test; factor analysis with Varimax rotated components and Cronbach's alpha coefficient for instrument reliability. Results: in the Kairser-Meyer- Olkin museum adequacy test it showed a value of (KMO=0.892) and in the Bartlett sphericity test a significant result (x2=5377.75; p<0.0001). Six factors were obtained, which grouped 30 items (α=0.867), with an explained variance of 57.44% of the total variance. Conclusion: the instrument proved to be valid and reliable for measuring the knowledge and preventive measures of the perioperative nursing team. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
