Abstract

Peach (Prunus persica) is consumed in almost every part of the world due to its unique taste, flavor, and other sensorial characteristics. The peach processing industry discarded many parts of the fruit including stone, seed, and peel as "peach waste" (PW) after separating the fleshy part of the fruit. PW components are an affluent source of protein, micronutrients, bioactive compounds, hemicellulose, lignin, and cellulose. This proffer review potentially identifies nutraceutical exploitation with health benefits demonstrated by functional bioactive compounds along with their industrial applications in the field of nutraceuticals, food, feed, and cosmetics. Moreover, Wastewater treatment and biosynthetic development of practically useful products are also discussed. The use of PW for the development and designing of innovative nutraceutical and functional foods with enhanced quality could also be significant for lowering food waste and improving food security and sustainability.
