Abstract

The occurrence of osteoporosis is due to the disruption of the balance between bone formation mediated by osteoblasts and bone resorption mediated by osteoclasts, resulting in abnormal bone homeostasis. MicroRNAs, as epigenetic regulatory factors, play an important role in bone metabolism by regulating the expression of signaling molecules related to osteoblasts and osteoclasts. This article reviews the latest research progress on the role of microRNAs in regulating and maintaining cell differentiation, proliferation, autophagy, and expression of related signaling molecules and pathways in bone microenvironment in osteoporosis, and summarizes the role of microRNAs in bone cell differentiation, highlighting the potential of microRNAs as therapeutic targets in metabolic bone diseases.
