Abstract
- We describe a new specimen of the Balaenopteridae from the upper Miocene, Pisco Formation, Peru. The holotype specimen is nearly a complete skeleton and most of the bones are preserved in articulated. Moreover, the holotype skull retains a rack of baleen in near-life position. Here we refer this specimen as a new species of the genus Incakujira, I. fordycei sp. nov. This new specimen will expand our knowledge of the paleobiodiversity and disparity of the balaenopterids. The vertebral and baleen plate morphology imply that I. fordycei was an agile swimmer with feeding on variety of diets (evasive and also non-evasive prey items). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
