AbstractIn this paper, by using the theory of linear limits of complex characters due to Dade and Loukaki, we present a new and relatively simple proof of Lewis’ theorem regarding the minimal inducing degree of an irreducible character of a maximal subgroup of an <italic>M</italic>-group.
