Abstract

Introduction. The control and monitoring of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) is still not a permanent concern for environmental quality regulatory institutions in many parts of the world. That is why it is necessary to pay attention to this unresolved issue. Objective. In our work, the presence of PAHs in edible oils, and recovered motor oils, diesel fuel, lubricating oils, is determined to call attention to these substances, of systematic use in human activity, as an alert of consideration for food safety and in general for the guarantee of an environmentally and physically healthy life. Materials and methods. The identification of PAHs was carried out by High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), comparing the chromatogram of the standard with that of the samples analyzed. Results. The significant presence of PAHs in petroleum derivatives and edible oils is demonstrated. Conclusions. All of the above requires the attention of the regulatory authorities of environmental and health quality for the sustainable conservation of life. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
