Abstract
- The article reports on a revealing study on dental hygienists in Scotland by President of the British Dental Hygienists' Association Margaret Ross. Education programs for dental hygienists in Scotland began in 1962 at Edinburgh Dental Hospital. The numbers of pupils fell in the late 1990s due to financial restrictions and the introduction of a mandatory two-year training course but this changed in 2001 with funding from the Scottish Executive. According to the author the study highlighted important issues for the future of continuing education for Scottish dental hygienists.
