Abstract

The document "CLASSIFYING GALAXIES: FROM THE TUNING FORK TO PHYLOGENETICS" published in the journal "Ciel et Espace" in December 2024 deals with the classification of galaxies by astronomers, based on the typology established by Edwin Hubble nearly a century ago. Galaxies are classified into three main types: elliptical, spiral, and irregular, with the later addition of lenticular galaxies by Allan Sandage. Other classification methods, such as phylogenetics adapted to galaxies by Didier Fraix-Burnet, are also explored to better understand the diversity of galaxies. [Extracted from the article]
