Abstract

This paper focuses on the issue of moisture and unhealthy environments in older buildings. Moisture is a widespread problem not only in historical constructions but also in more recent constructions, occurring globally and thus considered a global issue. Moisture in these buildings contributes to the creation of unhealthy environments, negatively impacting both the structural integrity of the buildings and the health of the occupants. It is also associated with the deterioration of various construction layers and the reduction of thermal resistance, leading to further unhealthy conditions. After initially describing this well-known problem, the paper presents potential remediation measures aimed at dehumidifying the studied building. This research will be followed by a subsequent article, which will explore the possible application of active thermal protection in the renovated constructions to improve the indoor climate and ensure its sustainability.
