Abstract

This special issue offers an empirical and contextualized look at the production and social and political uses of gender norms in the field of international peace and security. The four articles gathered in this issue are located at the intersection of the sociology of international relations, political sociology, strategic narrative theory, feminist studies and the sociology of mobilisations. They share a strong empirical grounding―drawing on the extensive grey literature of international organizations and on field surveys―, a taste for dialogue between different literatures, and the use of various methods borrowed from ethnography, sociology and discourse analysis. This thematic issue thus hopes to grasp in concrete terms and in context the emergence (I), negotiation (II) and implementation of gender (III) in the field of international peace and security.
