Abstract
- It has always been considered that the drawings of Guamán Poma de Ayala only revealed an idealization of the indigenous worldview expressed in the theme of the Hispanic cities of the 16th century, and that the buildings shown in his manuscript did not exist. However, the authors have located two churches located in the high Andean area of Peru, from that century, which have not been greatly impacted by the earthquakes that occurred in Peruvian history and that destroyed most of the 16th century buildings. Precisely having found real references on which Guamán Poma could base his drawings has allowed us to decipher the graphic characters of said chronicler with respect to the construction elements that shaped the architecture of the 16th century in the Viceroyalty of Peru.
