Abstract

A study was conducted in Manggarai Regency in order to analyze market performance of pigs. The research method applied was survey. Sampels were determined in four stages. First, two sub-districts were determined purposively. Second, four sample villages were also determined purposively. Third, sample farmers were selected based on non proportionally random sampling. Fourth, traders were determined using snowball sampling technique. Data, then, were analyzed by applying the market’s performance covers analysis of marketing margin, marketing cost, and farmer’s share. The result showed that the marketing margin gained by local traders reached IDR2,113,000 per head of pig, while the abattoir’s traders gained IDR4,553,000 per head. The marketing cost on the local traders level was IDR260,000, while on the abattoir’s traders level was IDR185,000 per head. Farmer’s share of market’s channel I was 100%, at market’s channel II was 69%, and at market’s channel III was 47%. In conclusion, the market’s channel I and II of pigs in Manggarai Regency have already efficient, but the market’s channel III has not been efficient yet. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
