Abstract

This article examines environmental conflicts that explain situations of environmental injustice and suffering and their relationship with spatial planning practices in Bogotá-region, Colombia. Based on different qualitative sources, environmental conflict cases are analyzed, as speculative or for-profit urban development, extractive activities of construction materials or the impact of waste landfills in areas of social and ecological relevance. We invite to rethink spatial and land use planning practices as a collective political task that aims at more democratic practices, not only as planners' duty. Likewise, we advanced in understanding the dialectic between conflicts and spatial planning in a context of high complexity and biodiversity. Here it is key to recalibrate how an environmental conflict is understood and assume it as a multi-scalar process, territorially inscribed and crossed by socioecological inequalities.
