Abstract

A study published in the journal Anaesthesia compared the effectiveness of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) and neuropsychological assessment in diagnosing postoperative neurocognitive disorders in older adult surgical patients. The researchers found that the MoCA, even with adjustments for age, sex, and educational level, was inadequate for detecting these disorders. Sensitivity and specificity were comparable between the adjusted MoCA and the original MoCA. The study highlights the need for a more suitable brief diagnostic tool for postoperative neurocognitive disorders. [Extracted from the article]
