Energiewende und Urbanisierung: Handlungsempfehlungen für Power-to-X Pfade (Technologien zur Nutzung von Stromüberschüssen) im städtischen Kontext.

The aim of this study is to support local utilities in implementing the most beneficial regional Power-to-X projects (technologies for utilizing surplus electricity). In this learning paper, we explore the question: What are the most economically viable PtX business cases for local utilities in an urban setting? To this end, we provide an overview of possible PtX pathways and analyze the situation based on a scenario for the transformation of the energy sector in the city of Wuppertal. Based on this, policy recommendations are formulated to drive forward a low-risk and sustainable transformation of the energy sector and to remove economic and technical barriers. It is shown that socio-economic factors and the acceptance of society must also be taken into account in order to understand the overall situation and ensure the success of the energy transition. The learning paper is therefore also a plea for a holistic and interdisciplinary approach. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
