Abstract
- A new study suggests that a history of migraine in women is not associated with an increased risk of Parkinson's disease (PD), regardless of headache frequency or migraine subtype. The study analyzed data from 39,312 women health professionals aged 45 years and older who had no history of PD. During the study period, 685 women self-reported a diagnosis of PD, with 18.7% of cases in women with any migraine and 81.3% in women without migraine. The findings provide reassurance to women with migraines that they do not have to worry about an elevated risk of PD in the future. However, the study's limitations include potential inaccuracies in self-reported data and the lack of accounting for changes in migraine status and frequency over time. The study's findings may not be generalizable to other populations, such as men and non-White individuals. [Extracted from the article]
