Abstract

Israel is intensifying its air and ground offensive in Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah. The Israeli military killed a Hezbollah commander and launched airstrikes on militants near invading Israeli forces. Two peacekeepers were injured in explosions near the United Nations mission on the Lebanon-Israel border. Concerns have been raised by Western and other foreign powers about the safety of the peacekeepers. Israel has ordered civilians in a quarter of Lebanon to leave their homes for their safety. The Israeli military chief of staff has vowed to continue the campaign until residents of northern Israel can safely return to their homes. The conflict has resulted in the displacement of up to a million people and the death of over 2,100 people in Lebanon. Hezbollah has continued to fire rockets at northern Israel despite the killing of its leader and senior commanders. [Extracted from the article]
