Gender is a biological concept and refers to the process that begins with the birth of individuals. That is, individuals are born biologically as women or men. Gender, however, describes the field in which biological roles are defined. In other words, it is the behaviors that the culture or society expects from the individual depending on the gender. It is important how the gender roles determined by society or culture are perceived. This can lead to discrimination, inequality or equality among individuals. The fact that women are second in a patriarchal structure in traditional societies has made the concept of gender controversial. The woman is still positioned as belonging to the private sphere, while the male is included in the public sphere. When such a distinction begins to take place in other areas of society, a number of problems arise. In this study, sociological explanation of gender and gender concepts, gender equality or inequality in the society are presented. There are solutions and suggestions for the development of gender equality. Sex and gender are concepts used to explain the differences between men and women both.
