Boletim Coronavírus no JN: uma análise semiótica.

The article reflects on the Coronavirus Bulletin presented on Jornal Nacional during the Covid-19 pandemic. The analysis focuses on the episode of June 19, 2021, when the pandemic reached the tragic milestone of half a million deaths from the disease. And it extends to contexts related to the analysis period, the production, and the display of the bulletin, produced based on independently gathered information by a group of media outlets in the face of a lack of transparency in the disclosure of federal government data. The analysis articulates the foundational and ethical tenets of journalism as categories and employs Discursive Semiotics as a methodology to demonstrate whether these professional assumptions converge concerning the significance of journalism in maintaining democracy.
