Abstract

This article provides an overview of how the paper and ink used in the production of TCE: The Chemical Engineer magazine are made. The paper for the magazine's cover, called Magno Satin, is produced by South African paper manufacturer Sappi at its Gratkorn Mill in Austria. The inner section paper, called Ultra Silk, is made by UPM Communication Papers' Caledonian paper mill in Scotland. The paper is made using a combination of mechanical and chemical pulp, with the coating applied to both sides. The ink used in the magazine is sourced from European printing companies Flint Group and TOYO INK. The lithographic printing process is used, which involves etching an image onto an aluminum plate. The article also discusses efforts to make the paper and ink production processes more sustainable, such as using vegetable and soybean oil-based solvents instead of fossil fuel-based ones. The paper used in the magazine is sourced sustainably, and readers are encouraged to recycle the magazine after reading it. [Extracted from the article]
