Abstract

This article presents a qualitative study conducted in an oncology outpatient clinic in Brazil, with the aim of understanding the meanings attributed to pain by professionals who care for adult oncology patients. The results highlight the importance of specialized and empathetic professionals in the care of adult oncology patients with pain. The study analyzed the experience of a multidisciplinary team in an oncology outpatient clinic in Brazil regarding the care of adult patients with pain. Health professionals emphasize the importance of prompt and efficient care, as well as the use of non-pharmacological therapies. The text discusses the importance of a humanistic education in the healthcare field, especially in the care of patients with oncological pain. The appropriate professional-patient relationship is essential for understanding pain and its implications on quality of life. The text also highlights the importance of appropriate pharmacological treatment and the use of complementary treatments for the management of oncological pain. Prioritizing the care of oncology patients is mandated by law, but there are still challenges to be faced in improving care.
