Abstract: The San Diego Symphony Orchestra has transformed the former Fox Theater into a world-class symphony hall after a multimillion-dollar renovation. The project, led by architects at HGA and acousticians at Akustiks, aimed to restore the glamour of the 1929 movie theater while adapting it to meet the demands of a symphony orchestra. The renovation included improvements to acoustics, sight lines, seating arrangements, and the addition of a choral terrace and a state-of-the-art recording studio. The architects also restored the venue's wood and plaster ornamentation while updating the color scheme and lighting. The new hall, named the Jacobs Music Center, is seen as a key venue for engaging new audiences and uniting the community. [Extracted from the article]
