Abstract

The modular nutrients are mixtures or isolated macronutrients that can be enriched with micronutrients. Modules are generally added in pediatrics, to the formula or to enteral preparations, to increase the energy intake or some specific nutrient. The existing carbohydrate modules are: maltodextrins, cereals, corn starch. The protein modules comprise; the formula concentration as well as the addition of fortifiers and finally, the lipid modules are made up of vegetable oil, medium chain triglycerides and mixed mixtures. The osmolarity must be considered depending on the type of formula and module to be used, carbohydrate modules are generally the ones that increase osmolarity the most. The usefulness of adding nutritional modules in current pediatrics persists and is a beneficial tool in various pathologies and nutritional status. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
