Abstract
- Objective To investigate the status quo of perceived discrimination, self-concept and psychosocial adjustment in cancer patients, and to explore their relationship. Methods 812 cancer patients were selected by convenience sampling and investigated by general data questionnaire,the Chinese version of the Chronic Illness Rejection and Discrimination Scale, Tennessee Self-concept Scale and Psychosocial Adjustment Scale of Illness. Results The total score of Perceived Discrimination (3.07±1.24), self-concept (206.24±46.45), psychosocial adjustment (58.97±33.03). The total score of perceived discrimination was positively correlated with the total score of psychosocial adjustment (r=0.503,P<0.01 ), and the total score of self-concept were negatively correlated with the total score of psychosocial adjustment and perceived discrimination (r=-0.506 and -0.354, P<0.05). The mediating effect between self-concept and psychosocial adjustment in cancer patients accounted for 26.91%. Conclusion The psychosocial adjustment of cancer patients is at a poor level, and there are intermediate levels of perceived discrimination and negative self-concept. The perceived discrimination can directly affect the psychosocial adjustment of cancer patients, and also indirectly affect the psychosocial adjustment of cancer patients through self-concept.
