Abstract
- The study aimed to investigate the effects of different proportions of passion fruit peel on the fermentation quality and the dry matter digestibility of fermented total mixed ration (FTMR). The experiment set the ratio of roughage to concentrate in FTMR at 7∶3, with a theoretical crude protein content of 13%. In each treatment group, passion fruit peel was used to replace King grass by 0 (control group, T0), 5% (T1), 10% (T2), and 15% (T3). After 60 days of sealed fermentation, the dry matter digestibility and ruminal fermentation parameters were determined using in vitro ruminal fluid culture methods. The results showed that there were no significant differences in pH values, acetic acid, and the ratio of ammonia nitrogen to total nitrogen among the treatment groups (P>0.05). The lactic acid content in FTMR with the addition of 5%, 10%, and 15% passion fruit peel was significantly increased (P<0.05). After 6 hours of in vitro culture, the ruminal fluid pH values of all groups were between 6.970 and 6.997 (P>0.05). When the addition amount of passion fruit peel is 15% (T3), the rumen gas production and dry matter digestion rate reach the highest level. The study suggests that passion fruit peel can be used as a high-quality raw material in fermented total mixed rations, which has the effect of promoting fermentation and improving dry matter digestibility, with the maximum addition amount reaching up to 15%.
