Control of epidemic meningitis in countries in the African meningitis belt, 2023.

The article reports on the progress made as of 2023 to a global roadmap launched by the World Health Organization (WHO) to defeat meningitis by 2030 in the African meningitis belt. Cited are the introduction and use of meningococcal conjugate vaccine in the meningitis belt to prevent epidemics, the increase in the number of countries participating in the enhanced surveillance (ES) network, and meningococcal outbreaks confirmed during the meningitis epidemic season in Niger and Nigeria.
