The research approach of systematic metaphor analysis shows reasons why metaphors are essential for our understanding and make suggestions for analysis and conscious use. The article considers aspects of Berne's first-order structural model from this perspective. The concept of metaphor according to Lakoff and Johnson is first introduced, which goes far beyond the generally used one. Examples from common usage are intended to serve as illustrations.
