Abstract
- The text of this article presents reflections on the theoretical and practical features that involve social sustainability in the framework of agroecology, with an empirical reference to the reality of the families of producers who are dedicated to the cultivation of kidney tomato, in the Riobamba Canton, Ecuador. It is based on the importance that good agricultural practices have acquired, as a necessity for the preservation of a healthy environment and quality of life in areas of agricultural producers. Thus, the production of kidney tomato and other vegetables is basic for the Ecuadorian agricultural industry, therefore, it must correspond to a socially responsible production process. Methodologically, the article is the product of a mixed investigation that contemplates, on the one hand, the analysis of specialized information on the topic, found in recognized databases, and the application of a questionnaire on social sustainability in kidney tomato production. to a group of farmers dedicated to this field in the Riobamba Canton. The study concludes by certifying the need to socialize the importance of sustainability with key indicators such as: fair labor practices, community participation and socio-environmental responsibility.
