Abstract

This essay reviews the design and deployment of a critical generative artificial intelligence (AI) and information literacy assignment aimed to advance student information literacy on ChatGPT in the history classroom. Cited are the author's experience of designing the assignment encouraging students to consider the impact of generative AI on academic integrity, and the need to integrate critical thinking about this new technology into the curriculum of information literacy.
