Abstract

This research letter discusses the impact of the perceived threat of potential military conflicts between Taiwan and China on the psychological distress of Taiwanese individuals. The study, conducted through telephone interviews with 2000 Taiwanese nationals, found a significant association between the perceived threat and psychological distress. The study also highlighted the buffering role of social support in mitigating the association between the perceived threat and psychological distress. The findings emphasize the need for strategies to ease tensions between Taiwan and China and to monitor mental health status and enhance social support among Taiwanese individuals.
