Abstract

This study develops a methodology to identify user tasks and metadata elements and to establish correspondences between them, in special collections of Chinese classics, based on interviews with 13 distinct researchers. A total of 36 unique user tasks were identified, with 30 being associated with specific elements. The methodology also encompassed analyzing how metadata in two databases supports these user tasks, leveraging the identified correspondences. The introduced methodology demonstrates its potential for data-creation organizations by providing a mechanism to select elements for metadata using the identified correspondences.
