Abstract
- The Bible testifies to the fusion of faith and love, but love was never the focus of theology and the theologians ignored it. In this paper, the factors of inattention to the concept of love in theology were first studied. This is due to accepting an image of love that separates its two types: agape love, which is not rooted in the attractive characteristics of the beloved, and erotic love, which is motivated by the characteristics of the beloved. The first type of love was admitted in classical theology, and love in relation to God and neighbor was described accordingly, but the second type was usually forbidden. The theology of love in this writing, by revising this division, accepts the definition of the erotic tradition of love in theology since it considers it a non-mysterious and explainable image of love. In criticizing the common attitude about love, the point of view of Alan Soble, a contemporary philosopher, was used; therefore, it was shown that love in relation to God is explicable in the erotic tradition and can respond to challenges. This attitude includes various elements, and in the paper, only the theological elements were discussed, including: God is personal, has emotions, is present in the world, in union with man and having care attribute.
