Abstract
- A 55-year-old woman with a history of hypertension, diabetes, and decompensated liver failure developed Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis (SJS/TEN) while being treated with rifaximin. She had started receiving rifaximin, along with other medications, for her liver failure. One week after starting the medications, she developed a rash on her inner thighs, which eventually spread and became more severe. After a skin biopsy confirmed SJS/TEN, it was determined that rifaximin was the cause. Despite treatment, her condition worsened and she died after two weeks of hospitalization.
