Abstract

The article discusses the increased risk of medication nonadherence and administration errors among older adults living alone with cognitive impairment. It highlights that one quarter of older adults with cognitive impairment live alone, mostly women without support for medication management. The study compares high-risk medication use among older adults living alone versus those living with others and finds that living alone is associated with being prescribed high-risk medication and not receiving help with medication management. The study emphasizes the need for support and interventions to improve medication adherence and administration in this population. The document also includes references to three different studies related to medication adherence in the elderly, assistive technology and telecare for people with dementia, and dementia care, providing valuable insights into these topics for library patrons conducting research.
