Abstract

According to a Centcom press release, seven U.S. soldiers were injured during a raid on a suspected ISIS hideout in western Iraq. The raid, which was conducted by U.S. and Iraqi forces, resulted in the death of 15 ISIS fighters. The U.S. has approximately 2,500 troops in Iraq, and their presence continues to be a topic of debate. While the U.S. claims to have transitioned to an "advise, assist, and enable" mission, incidents like this raid demonstrate that U.S. troops are still involved in combat. Some voices in the U.S. question the worth of putting American lives at risk in Iraq and Syria, and express concerns about being drawn into a larger regional war. [Extracted from the article]
