Abstract

This article provides an overview of the European participation in the construction of the Electron Ion Collider (EIC), a significant project in nuclear physics. The EIC aims to study the structure of nucleons and nuclei by colliding highly polarized electrons with high-energy beams. The European community is actively involved in the project, with recommendations from the Nuclear Physics European Collaboration Committee (NuPECC) emphasizing European participation. European institutions are also contributing to the design and construction of the ePIC detector for the EIC experiment. The article emphasizes the importance of the EIC in advancing our understanding of the fundamental building blocks of matter and highlights the collaborative efforts of scientists from around the world. The European nuclear science community sees the EIC as an opportunity for further advancements in this field. [Extracted from the article]
