Abstract

The article reports that with the tragic death of motion picture actor Tyrone Power, the Fireman's Fund Insurance Co. lost $1,219,172. This ninety-seven-year-old firm, which manages to endow statistical underwriting has had to weather many shocks. As a serious sideline of its Inland Marine Department, the company also writes an unusual policy known as cast insurance, which is bought by some of the major film studios to cover losses arising from death, illness or injury to specified stars while the picture is in production. The $1,219,172 is the largest insurance company payment ever made on such a policy.
