Abstract

The article present an interview with South African dancer and choreographer Dada Masilo. Topics include Masilo's reimagined ballet of William Shakespeare's "Hamlet," which centers on the character Ophelia rather than the traditional focus; Masilo's approach to blending ballet, contemporary and African dance forms; the postponement of the U.S. debut of the work; and Masilo's intention to address misogyny and the impact of patriarchal power imbalances through her reinterpretation.
