The topic of peace is used by the apostle Paul in continuity with the Biblical idea of shalom. While the Greek eirene simply points to an interruption in a constant state of war, shalom means completeness, welfare, health and, eventually, also peace. In an apocalyptic theology such as Paul’s, in a corrupted world there can be peace only thanks to a special and merciful intervention by God, stressing the connection between the ideas of peace and salvation as well.
