Abstract

This article explores the influence of the logic of academic capitalism and international rankings on the structure and functioning of Brazilian higher education. It analyses the growing commodification of knowledge and the intensification of scientific competition, phenomena that are driven by financial dominance. The study highlights the centrality of large academic publishers in the global publishing market and explores their intrinsic relationship with academic rankings. The article concludes that financial dominance is progressively inserting Brazilian state universities into the circuit of academic capitalism, challenging their institutional autonomy and alienating their researchers under the intensification of labour for the production of knowledge.
