Abstract

On a global scale, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused radical changes in the economy, politics, health systems and social life, as well as in the daily life of people and, in particular, the quality of life of the population in our country. The post-COVID-19 condition is a new and debilitating state for which there are still many uncertainties, and no specific diagnostic tests or treatments are known. The high prevalence of the disease in the population places significant pressure on already affected health systems across Europe, particularly on the health and psychosocial support and the associated costs for optimal care management. The complex nature of the condition requires a long-term, multidisciplinary approach. The condition following COVID-19 can present a range of symptoms, with more than 200 different symptoms reported in the literature to date, the most common being shortness of breath, fatigue, pain, psychological effects and cognitive dysfunction including brain fog. These symptoms can affect daily functioning and quality of life. The purpose of this study was to examine and analyze some aspects of the quality of life of patients in Bulgaria after the COVID-19 pandemic. To achieve this goal, an anonymous survey was conducted over one month, from 13 October 2023 to 13 November 2023, covering 2000 people randomly selected between the ages of 18 and 69+. The results show that the largest relative share of respondents indicated no change in their lifestyles (38.5%), with a majority being men, followed by those who reported that „everything is harmonious and calm" (24.6%). Almost half of the respondents, with a larger share represented by men, indicated that the pandemic situation did not affected their relationships with relatives, friends, acquaintances, and colleagues. Anxiety, although at a minimal percentage, is more prevalent among women. Men experience lesser anxiety and worry. 50.6% of the respondents are still employed at their previous job, with only 3.9% having left and found new employment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
