Abstract

To describe the profile of infants attended at a physical therapy outpatient clinic for discharged patients from the neonatal intensive care unit of Santa Casa de Uruguaiana (Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil). This is a quantitative, observational, and cross-sectional study. The following variables were included: sex, date of birth, gestational age, birth weight, type of delivery, neonatal complications, as well as age and clinical history of the mother. The Alberta Infant Motor Scale was used to assess motor performance. The sample consisted of 49 infants (67.3% males) discharged from the NICU. Univariate analysis indicated a higher risk of atypical motor development among boys (PR: 1.15, p = 0.33). The infants in our sample had more than one risk factor associated with motor development, and the greater the cumulative effect of the risks, the higher the chances of having unfavorable outcomes.
