Abstract

Competition in the German audiovisual and media system is analyzed, based on the Political Economy of Communication (EPC) and its update based on the analysis of the dynamics of digital platforms. The article aims to be a starting point for comparative analyzes of countries in the rearrangement of the global media market, which face multiplicity of supply, digitalization and competition between local audiovisual industry leaders, private and public, with audiovisual streaming services. It is concluded that the EPC’s theoretical proposal allows a Latin American theoretical and critical look at empirical research in different contexts that, despite the differences, are influenced by common categories, such as Capital, the State and the Public in their interrelations and challenges that accompany digital platforms.
