Abstract

A meta-analysis suggests that high-dose psilocybin may provide greater relief from depressive symptoms compared to placebo or escitalopram, without an increased risk of severe adverse events. The study included 811 participants across 15 psychedelic trials and 1968 participants across five escitalopram trials. High-dose psilocybin performed better than placebo in antidepressant trials, but the effect size was similar to that of current antidepressants. The study did not assess long-term effects and the sample size of the psychedelic trials was small. [Extracted from the article]
