Abstract

This article discusses a national survey conducted in Italy to evaluate the current practice of using ultrasound in the management of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH). Despite guidelines not recommending the use of ultrasound in PPH, the survey found that 45% of respondents always used ultrasound in PPH management, and 85% used it routinely to evaluate the uterine cavity in cases of suspected retained membranes or placenta. The survey also found that the use of ultrasound was more common in hospitals with a higher number of deliveries per year and in practitioners who had received specific training. The results suggest that ultrasound is commonly used in PPH management, particularly among maternal fetal medicine practitioners in hospitals with a higher volume of deliveries.
