Abstract

A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of routine ultrasound screening for vasa previa (VP), a condition where fetal blood vessels cross the cervix. The study analyzed 16 eligible studies and found that when routine screening was performed, 98% of cases of VP were detected prior to delivery. Perinatal survival rates ranged between 87.5% and 100% when VP was diagnosed prenatally. The study concludes that routine screening for VP is associated with a high detection rate and high perinatal survival, supporting the case for its implementation. [Extracted from the article]
